Where’s the heater on a hot tub?

While diagnosing heating issues on a hot tub we often get asked the question where’s the heater on a hot tub. This can be either quite easy to find or a little trickier.

By far the easiest option of all is give Healthy Hot Tubs a call on 0333 772 0082 and let the experts explain

Want to find it yourself? Let’s start with the easy way to where’s the heater on a hot tub.

The first step is that most hot tubs heaters are normally made of metal. Metal will stand out very easily against a host of plastic piping. Remember the heater can come in many shapes and sizes.

  • So, the first and easiest way is to look for the metal tube.

Make this easier by taking the side panels off your spa and assuming you can see the filter housing, just trace the plastic piping from the filter housing to the first pump. Either before the pump or just after you will find the metal tube of the heater.

  • Not all heaters are metal on a hot tub, some like the ETH or E-Think 3000 are plastic. These are normally found on older Chinese systems such as Danz Rhine spas and Danz Storm Spas amongst other makes and models. A picture of this can be seen below.

Foam filled spas or access panel spas.

Sometimes when trying to find where’s the heater on a hot tub, you follow the above steps but.

  • When you take the side panel off you are greeted with foam insulation.
  • There is only one panel you can take off.
  • Following the filter housing pipes is not possible because the hot tub is sectioned off.

OK no need to worry let’s look at each one in turn.

When the tub is full of insulation, revert to the easy part advised above. Look at where the original electrics where placed into the hot tub. Now take that panel off and 99% of the time you will see the metallic tube of the heater.

The same method applies to the ‘having only one panel to take off’ or ‘the hot tub is sectioned off’. This is normally called the access panel. Again, take this panel off and all the hot tub main components should be housed here. Look for the metallic tube and this is the heater.
